Growing the Strawberry Kush strain
Growing Strawberry Kush Feminized is pretty easy, and being fairly short, can be grown indoors or out. It has a tendency to get branchy, however, so keeping up with pruning is important to maximize yields. Strawberry Kush thrives in a Sea of Green environment, so you might want to try it. Coming in at just under three feet, it will grow taller outdoors, and grows in a Continental climate, which means just about anywhere in the growing season. Fast flowering time indoors, you can expect to harvest in mid October outdoors. Expect yields of to 16 ounces indoors, and 23 ounces outside.
- Pruning is important
- Use the Sea of Green method for 4 or more plants
- Will stretch taller than 3 feet outside
- Big harvests
Smoking the Strawberry Kush strain
Toking Strawberry Kush is interesting. Being 75% Indica dominant, you would think most of the high would be body focused, but she goes after your head like a Sativa. It also doesn’t make you sleepy, making it a great daytime smoke. It does numb the body, also, just not as much as you’d expect. Users report feeling inspired and uplifted, their mood improved, and happier after partaking in a sesh with Strawberry Kush. Citrusy, piney notes fall under strong kush notes, and of course strong strawberry flavors during smoking.
- 75% Indica dominant
- Rare for an Indica, strong cerebral effects
- Doesn’t usually cause drowsiness
- Strawberry flavored
The Continental Climate has very hot, short, and humid summers followed by brutally cold winters, typical in the Northeastern and some of the Central United States. Not ideal for marijuana cultivating, you are better off growing in a greenhouse or indoors, unless your strain is mold resistant. Other pathogens also thrive there. If your strain grows in this climate, it’ll grow almost anywhere.
The Sea of Green technique involves growing the plants close together so that they form a solid canopy, maximizing light coverage. It’s a low-stress technique that involves utilizing smaller plants to their full potential, taking advantage of their size instead of wasting space. The branches, leaves, and buds wind together, creating a “sea of cannabis”, a more solid area than if grown separately. This creates better yields per foot because it encourages outward growing instead of upwards, and also shortens the time to flower, meaning you can have harvests more often.
Short, burly plants do well with SOG, so Indica’s are most often used. The closer the size and growing habits match, the more even the canopy, so using the same strains of plant is most often used. SOG is very popular when using clones for this reason.
Ounces per plant are lower with SOG, but ounces per footage go up, so SOG works very well when vertical space is limited. Be careful not to overdo how tightly the plant spacing is, they still need proper airflow and room to expand. No more than two dense plants per foot2 is ideal. Pests and other ailments can be a problem with SOG, they spread quickly because of the plant’s close proximity. All the plants need to be at identical height and growth stage to take full advantage of this technique, and you need to limit your cultivars to short ones. However, SOG most efficiently utilizes resources such as tent area and light, less pruning, less waste, and it’s easy enough for beginner growers to utilize. It also shortens the blooming time, shortening overall grow time.
